FKMS - FEDERATION OF KOREAN MICROBIOLOGICAL SOCIETIES
On 16 June 2000 the chairmen, presidents and academic advisers of the The Korean Society of Mycology, the Microbiological Society of Korea, the Korean Society for Microbiology, the Korean Society for Microbiology and Biotechnology and the Korean Society of Virology formed a preparatory committee for the establishment of the Federation of Korean Microbiological Societies, to unite the minds of all microbiologists in Korea as the first step in promoting the development of Korean microbiology and the international enhancement of academic ability.
On 17 November 2000 a general meeting for the establishment of the Federation of Korean Microbiological Societies was held at Korea University, department of life sciences. Dr. Hyun-sam Kang was elected as the first chairman by the preparation committee for the establishment of the Federation of Korean Microbiological Societies. He then held a symposium to commemorate the establishment.
The Federation of Korean Microbiological Societies is comprised of five member societies: The Korean Society of Mycology, the Microbiological Society of Korea, the Korean Society for Microbiology, the Korean Society for Microbiology and Biotechnology and the Korean Society of Virology
